Horsies

So yesterday two of the girl wranglers (Tami and Rebecca) took us on a staff trail ride!! I was so excited all day! We decided to go after lunch. It was really slow at the ranch because most of the staff was at the Rockies' game since it was free for CLU people. But the newbies weren't really invited and some staff did have to stay behind. But there were no guests so we pretty much had the ranch to ourselves. So it was the two wranglers, me, and four other people I work with, just a bunch of the young people.

Our ride was like 3 hours long! It was great! It started out a little bit windy but by the end it was really cold. We had a storm coming in and the forecast was calling for snow. But that was near the end of the ride so it wasn't that bad. But riding through the mountains was a bit scary. We were walking along the side of some mountains and down some steep cliffs. But everything was okay. It was a shame though that some of the riders weren't that experienced. It was one guys first time on a horse. Cuz I would have like to have cantered, but maybe another time. We did do a little bit of trotting. And in the beginning when we were heading to the mountain, we went through some pretty deep water. First we crossed a pretty fast river, then through some deep ponds. It was almost to my stirrups! The kid who had never ridden before, well he was on a pretty reliable horse, but this time the horse was acting up. In the deepest pond, it started making motions indicating that it was gonna lay down in the water! Tami shouted for Zane to pull his horse up but the horse still started to sit a bit and Zane's leg and foot got really wet. But it didn't lay down so that's good. But it was still pretty funny.

And my horse was strange. It wanted to walk through every single tree! Like it needed its belly scratched! But it was fun. But I did get sore after a while. And have you ever noticed how after a long ride, if you take your feet out of the stirrups, they feel like lead weights. Your feet become so heavy!

We also rode through a field that had bushes that looked like miniature trees! So my horse and I pretended like we were giants. You know what it actually felt like? It was like we were in Lost World, where the people go up above the trees in the High Hide to get away from the T-Rexes. That's what it felt like.

Well then we got back to the barn and put our horses out in the pasture with the rest of the herd. Just as it started to rain. So perfect timing.

That night, after dinner, I went into town with the super extroverted girl and a kid named Bruce. He drove because he has a car, and we went to the grocery store to buy marshmallows for a campfire. But at the store we met a guy from work so we just went to his house because he was gonna make special pineapple milkshakes. The guy lives with other workers from the ranch, so we all hung out and watched a movie then Bruce drove Courtney and me home.

The nights are so dark here. There are hardly any street lights and it's just SO dark! It was amazing. I'd never been somewhere that dark.

But all in all, it was a fun day.

Tomorrow I'm helping serve breakfast because the Microsoft people are here. (Sadly, no Mr. Gates) So bonne nuit!
